A mother of a 1 month old baby, who has had some challenges with
feeding--milk supply, yeast, latch, and painful gas--called to say that
baby's saliva seems more slippery for the past couple of days, causing baby
to have difficulty staying on the breast.

At the Ped's suggestion she has been giving simethecone drops for gas. (of
course, it hasn't helped) Baby has been feeding only breastmilk for a
couple of weeks now and is gaining weight well. She is happy all day, but
has some nights that are difficult.

I suggested that she eliminate the Mylocon.

What could cause slippery saliva, if it is, in fact, more slippery than it
has been. I am reminded that "the mother knows."
