Lisa Jones' post on the striking effectiveness of presenting info on the
dangers of powdered formula to the hospital's risk manager was a pleasure to
read. More of us should do the same - present the info on a real danger to
the person paid by the hospital specifically to worry, and to do whatever it
takes to reduce the hospital's vulnerability for exposing patients to
needless risks.

If you missed Lisa's post, here is the gist again, which certainly bears
repeating:
"...when I presented the information to our risk manager, she agreed that to
continue with providing formula discharge bags to moms meant our facility
would need to keep a log of all patients, their contact and the lot numbers
on all the cans in case of recall and set up a system appointing staff to do
this and be responsible for monitoring recalls and contacting families when
it happened. The cost benefit ratio became to high to continue with these "
free gifts" and we no longer give out ANY of the discharge bags in our post
partum unit."
