Our hospital has been taking babies to recovery post-c-section after a quick
visit to the nursery and a quick set of vitals. (prior to bathing etc.) when
requested but we have no written policy. Depending on the individual L&D
nurse the lactation consultant is often asked to remain for the entire time the
baby is in recovery. We are hoping to implement a policy where all stable
babies will be taken to recovery to breastfeed and we can not possibly spend
all of our time in recovery babysitting babies!

We are wondering how other hospitals are doing this. Of course the L&D
recovery nurse is concerned about taking care of both mother and baby. My
respose was that we already ask nurses to do that during mother/baby
couplet care. Their response is that the couple is more stable. Also we often
we only have 1 nurse and a PCT in the nursery so she cannot leave the
nursery.

Any suggestions?
