I noticed some years ago that physicians seem to avoid or forget breast
examination during prenatal visits.  I started spending a portion of the
breastfeeding class teaching mothers how to examine her own breast....that
it was important to get used to her breasts and to 'get to know them'
beyond a body part which goes in the bra or something for her partner to
play with.

Self exam is better than no exam but not as good as self + doc exam.
