Hello, my name is Karen Hoxie-Smith, a Breastfeeding Counselor and Lactation
Consultant (via courses through Breastfeeding Support Consultants) and a LLL
Leader. I'll sit for the IBLCE exam this July, provided I can scrape up the
money...

My husband and I run a group home for abused teenage girls. I do not
consider it a coincidence that none of them, of the 40 or so I've worked with
in the past 5 years, were breastfed. Of course, there are other factors in
play...their mothers were usually teenagers, poor, unmarried. I heard once
that a study exists showing that bf babies are less likely to be abused.
Anyone know the reference, if it does indeed exist? This is my area of
interest, and I'd like to develop a study around it...unfortunately, the
above-mentioned factors are hard to separate out. And although I know you're
all totally pro-breastfeeding, educated people, let me clarify myself by
saying that I do not think that all ABM-feeding moms are likely to abuse
their children. Unfortunately, people in other circles react violently to my
theory...
