I frequently get calls from moms confused about how long to store their
milk. It usually starts with, "I was told to only store my milk xxx
time, but I read where it said you could store for xxxx time. Which is
right?"

We have printed figures in our binder of info all our moms get.
However, when disucssing sotrage I like to point out that they will see
all kinds of numbers. It just shows that it's not an exact science.
You can probably go with the longer times if your fridge is quite cold
and maybe the shorter times if it stays a little warmer, but again, no
absolutes. Use your own judgement. Some parents are still "hung up" on
wanting precise numbers - thinking that if it's been there a minute
longer, it must be thrown out. Others, I feel, take this as a kind of
empowerment for them and helps them see that raising a baby can't be
done by rules, but takes some judgement and common sense as well as
being flexible.

Winnie
