Hi Nancy,
The study recruited women antenatally so it wasn't a referral population. They did have a quarter drop out and it was not a representative population (more older, well educated women). How representative the results are of any particular population is is anyone's guess- it is a surprisingly large % that had unacceptable low weight gains despite good assistance.
