Christine, we do this also, but the sessions are only 15 mins and on day of discharge (usually).  Props are minimal - a black furry cloth, and many time using Mom or Dad as a prop.  They are very respectful of the baby, and if baby is extremely fussy, will come back so that mom can feed baby to calm baby down.
