"her physician feels that her milk, at age 44, is not nutritionally complete
or adequate."

AAARRRGGGHHH! A sacrifice on the altar of ignorance indeed! Wouldn't you say
the proof is in the pudding, that if the babies are growing well on their
mother's milk, and she has a good supply, and all signs are looking good,
that that would tell you something?!

I too am aware of some information about *possibility* of reduced supply in
older moms, and I have seen situations where maternal age PLUS a variety of
other major stressors *seems* to contribute to reduced supply. And I've
heard of lots of people being "told" by their hcp that their milk wasn't
"good enough", but I have never seen research or documentation to support
this theory.

What exactly does the doctor think is wrong with her milk? I would say that
this is a case where the burden is on the doc to provide evidence to support
his theory. IF the babies are doing well, that is. And if her supply should
diminish later on, then would be the time to cope with it. Supplementing
when it's not necessary would be a pretty good way to ensure that her supply
would diminish, though, and then the doctor could be "right" once again...

I bet there are plenty of "older moms" on this list who could refute this
notion!
