Hello everyone. I've been learning a lot by lurking the past few weeks
but now I guess I need to get actively involved. A friend from my
church has a two month daughter with tongue tie. Her first inquiries to
her pediatrician concerning clipping were more or less ignored. The
baby did get going with breastfeeding with a fair amount of success.
She has a good weight gain. She does extend her tongue over the gum
line but cannot bring it to a point. I saw her when she was almost two
weeks.

Since I heard Dr. Palmer at the Scottsdale conference, I was able to get
the video of his session for the mother to watch. She then told me her
father had his frenulum clipped when he was sixty after living for years
with all the symptoms mentioned by Dr. Palmer as possible consequences
(i.e. indigestion, sleep apnea) of not taking care of this problem at a
young age. The mother was finally given a referral to see a specialist
to take care of this. He doesn't want to do anything until the infant
is one year. He thinks it's too risky to use the gas which he deems
necessary for the procedure.

I know that newborns often have the frenulums clipped with no
anesthetic. Is there any reason why this could not be done for this
infant who is now two months? Last night as the baby nursed I kept
hearing clicking as she kept losing suction. The mother says she has to
pay constant attention to her while she nurses.

I work are working hard to build our image as "the breastfeeding place".
