It seems to me there are not one, but two very important areas of  
knowledge lacking in the scenario described. Firstly knowledge of  
normal stooling, as we've discussed. Secondly, knowledge of best  
practice management of diarrhoea. When an infant gets gastroenteritis  
(surely the cause of well over 95% of cases of infant diarrhoea in  
India), the absolute key management point is to keep breastfeeding as  
much as possible.
