Many mothers make a long-term committment -- or a renewed committment --
to La Leche League meetings after attending when they had difficulties
in the first few weeks. Whether they continue to come with an older baby
or come again on their own with a new one in their tummy, their empathy
for the mothers with difficulties is the best publicity we can have for
continued breastfeeding!

I like to say that our coping skills often improve faster than the
situation we're in. Some mothers need to know there is something they
can work on -- their ability to deal with challenges, their creative
solutions -- rather than trying to change the baby. Reminding them that
as their baby grows their creativity will, as well, can be helpful. I
don't know if I have an evidence base for that, but I wish someone would
do a study on it because it is what I see!
