Of course you want to find out the cause of the pain to rule out anything that 
needs treatment.  However, is it really necessary for her to pump that side if 
the pain cannot be eliminated?  She could let that side involute and nurse 
one-sided.  After all, moms can make enough for multiples, so she should be able 
to provide enough for one without the bother of pumping the problem side.  She 
might want to put an extra nursing pad or two on the unused side for symmetry.
