A few months ago I wrote an article for a hospital Family Centered Care unit
newsletter about the "Postpartum Breastfeeding Class", ....one part of the
article included ways to encourage new moms to attend the postpartum
breastfeeding class. To get their input and make sure the staff was included, I surveyed
the staff on this topic. A snipet from the article I wrote titled "Postpartum
Breastfeeding Class: Who Needs It?";

<<Sometimes moms question the need for, or are reluctant to attend, the
postpartum class if they have attended a prenatal class. FCC nurse Evelina Buot
uses a wonderful analogy in response to this question, or reluctance by the new
mom. Evelina says "breastfeeding can be like learning to drive a car, in
prenatal breastfeeding class you learn and prepare from the 'manual', in early
postpartum you are 'behind the wheel' and breastfeeding class is an important part
of that learning.">>
