Hi All,
Out here in the rural area I finally found the Redbook cover that
has been causing all the stir. (By the way neither W-- M--t was carrying
it either, I don't know if this was a local decison or corporate, in
addition to Winn Dixie & 7/11 which were mentioned in the show). Anyway,
after hearing the discussion on MSNBC, I just had to get it.
The discussion infuriated me. The 'against' woman, after proclaiming
that she had "breastfed" her two children and "we all know how good it
is to breastfeed." Then went onto say that the use of the picture was
explotive of breastfeeding and should not be shown in public (i.e. I
heard that to mean, it would be ok in the magazine but not on it). I
have to admit that while she was talking the moderator flashed other
magazine covers which definately showed more breast and skin, asking her
to comment on them, which she never did.
As I said, I did get the cover and to me, it shows less than it did
on tv. I was amazed, I did not find it offensive at all. I do have a
problem only because pictures of breastfeeding which show the blouse
unbutton down the front is offputting to women of some religions and who
are not comfortable displaying their body in public or breasts in
public. These pictures tend to subtly inply that this is how you breast
feed and turns such women off, without even considering it or learning
about breastfeeding clothing and discreet nursing.
