You really don't need to purchase anything special to accomplish kangaroo
care. Have mom wear a large shirt that buttons in the front--one of Dad's
flannel shirts will do. Help her position baby prone between her breasts and
when baby is comfortable and stable, button shirt. Reassure her you or the
bedside nurse will stay with her the first couple of times to watch baby and
the monitor.

Premies held skin-skin maintain their temps. If baby cools, mom's temp
increases--just like a servo isolette. You are so FORTUNATE to have a place
where moms can spend the night. At first mothers may need some gentle
encouragement and reassurance to do skin-skin holding (never pushing). Before
long they will love it. It might help to present the concept ahead of time
and set up a time when the nurse has plenty of time to help her. Good luck.
