IMO, I think the babies act "like they have a
headache" because they do.  I started my nursing
career in the NICU back in the day when it was
believed the neonates felt no pain at all due to their
"immature" central nervous system.  Hmm, they sure
acted like they were suffering discomfort during
painful procedures.  May God be merciful to us for
what we did in ignorance.

I think the disorganized suck patterns are a result of
the mechanical intervention.  The moms in our
institution do not routinely receive fentanyl.  It
would be interesting to study it further.

For the rest of the gang:  I'm almost 41 (August 15).
Due to symptoms, I had a colonoscopy with 3 biopsies
back in June.  Mine came back all clear & the problems
had to do with a bad reaction to a mix of medications
I was on for another problem. :)  Such is life.  The
procedure was quite easy compared to others I've had.
I was very comfortable with the versed & fentanyl I
received just prior to the start & one time more that
I remember during it.  I only remember bits & pieces
of that morning.  I found it interesting the times I
was lucid enough to watch my colon zooming past on the
video screen.  My mammograms have also went well.
I've had 3 of those due to family history &
fibrocystic changes.  Work on living healthy & take
advantage of the screening tests when you can.

That said, Liz, best of luck.  You'll be in my
prayers.
Keep us posted when you can.  The willingness to make
lemons into lemonade will carry you far--& it's quite
refreshing on a warm summer day.
