Lisa, thank you for your long and thoughtful post. Perhaps TT is more prevalent these days.Mothers are talking more via the internet, there is more information out there for them to read.Perhaps the pendalum was swinging in the direction of under-diagnosing TT, and now it is swinging in the direction of over-diagnosing TT. We will find the right balance over time. I am grateful whenever tongue tie is mentioned as a possibility of breastfeeding difficulties. Better to be aware than not. I heard Brian Palmer speak at the conference in Scottsdale in '98. I came back to my newly established lactation center and my 3 other colleagues were not at all on the same page as I was. I have told mothers in the clinic who asked me to rule out tongue tie, that I wish it was there, because then it could be fixed, but that it was not the case with their child. I have praised other mothers who have come to see me after a TT release, and praised them for being aware and asking about it. All is good as we discuss and learn from each other and from the families we work with. Susan in Minnesotarn ibclc
