I have been asked to write some breastfeeding protocols at our hospital. Our
deparment head wants a protocol the nurse's can go by in initiating
breasfeeding. Have any of you written this type of protocol? We do have some
protocols for breastfeeding problems like engorgement, plugged duct, etc.

Also, we want to write a protocol for those sleepy babies that just refuse to
nurse. How long can the nurses wait before checking the blood glucose and/or
using supplementation? My research has turned up many different thoughts.
What is the general opinion and is there valid documentation to back it up?

Appreciate any help you can get for me to get our lactation program improved
and successful.
