I would occasionally use oxytocin nasal spray many years ago, by having the pharmacist put Pitocin into a nose dropper bottle and advising the mother to use 1-2 drops to induce a letdown.

However, I found that it induced tachyphylaxis after just a few doses, which means that the mothers had the risk of inability letting down without the medication, after just a few doses.

Therefore, I now approach letdown issues differently, by managing the anxiety that is most often the cause of the difficulty letting down.

In addition, I find that low thyroid function causes a delayed or difficulty letting down.
