I've thought about this since I earn money as a technician in a research lab
(nothing lactation related) doing a little biochemistry, a little molecular
and a little cell biology.  Anyway, what about using stir bars.  These are
magnets covered in teflon (I think).  They can be autoclave, come in many
sizes and all you need is a stir plate to start them working.
