With my fifth, there was a charge for epidural and suture kit (for
episiotomy repair) on my bill. I called the hospital and informed them
that I had not had an epidural or anything else and I had not had an
episiotomy or any tears requiring suturing. I was told that it didn't
matter, that the insurance was going to reimburse a set amount regardless
of what was on the bill and deleting these items would not reduce either
the amount the insurance allowed nor the amount of my copayment!

Maybe when the insurance companies give a break to those who have
unmedicated births, then there will be more incentive.

Pauli Loeffler, mother of six just returned from her second indoor soccer
game with tremendously sore quads.
