Yep, and here is another herb called golden root - it is really important
when counseling women to find out the latin name of the herb as there are so
many common names that overlap.

Are you perhaps looking for Goldenseal?. Hydrastis canadensis L- which is
often combined with echinacea and propolis in cold/flu preps and is
generally NOT recommended during pregnancy but not clearly defined for
(early) lactation although the midwifery practice I work with uses it
topically for cord care. More here:

Golden root, aka Oregon graperoot- Berberis aquifolium, B. nervosa, Mahonia
spp.
as Katie pointed out is a more palatable alternative, but not the same herb
as golden seal root. Both taste and smell similar and contain berberine.
