Dear Lactnetters - I read with interest the post about breastfeeding
friendly freebies. Of course, I called and Emailed several of the
references. But, I just want to warn everybody, that some of the larger
"packages" which contain magazines and samples, are extraordinarily
breastfeeding unfriendly. Be careful. Our clinic gets lots and lots of
these [by the crate] and I have been known to throw away hundreds in a blind
rage after looking through them. So-called breastfeeding advise, coming
from a magazine published with lots of formula ads in it, is almost always
subtly anti-breastfeeding if you read between the lines. Look on the back
and see who has advertised there, inside the front cover, and in the middle
of the magazine. Check for those card-stock inserts. If any of those
places have formula ads, then the whole magazine will have a bottle feeding
slant -- NO MATTER WHAT is contained inside on breastfeeding. If you have
the time or volunteers you can always open all of them, pull out the samples
(the good ones) and just put them out in the waiting areas in a basket and
throw the magazines. That's what I do when I have help.
