Just a sequel to my sad and sorry story of first breastfeeding experience.
When did I learn to breastfeed lying down?
Baby No.1. now aged 45. Of course not, I hardly fed him sitting up!
Baby No. 2. now aged 44. Beautiful experiences through home birth and support from NCT (as I wrote in previous story) but told not to lie down feeding because I might "smother him."
Baby No. 3. Now 42. Unlike previous births, this labour was very long and hard - posterior position and long long transition stage. Fortunately it was at home, otherwise I`m sure it would have been a Cesarean in hospital.
But I was so exhausted when the baby was born that I fell into a deep long sleep without really getting to know the baby. The midwife put him into the crib next to my bed and left me to sleep.
Some time later I was awoken by a whimpering cry. I leaned over the crib and he was looking at me, wide awake and wondering where I was. I took hold of his hand and he grasped my little finger and quietened down. I couldn`t stay in that position for long and wanted my finger back so I lifted him into bed and we lay there blissfully as he started to nurse.
Baby No. 4. Now aged 40. Of course I breastfed her lying down, standing up, sitting reading to her big brothers, stirring the porridge and supervising the noisy chaos of a house with four small children.
