It is not just that they do not want to counsel, I have noticed already at my 
short time at our hospital the residents do not even know what my profession 
is! When I went to speak to a couple of them about one baby re:weight loss 
he looked at  me, looked at my badge and said "what do you do?" When I 
explained to him who I was, my purpose, my education (which he questioned) 
they all looked at one another and said they did not even know there were 
such people out there!!! So if they do not know we exist they will base their 
info on whatever means they have such as their wives, friends, family, and if 
female possibly their own. In working with one resident who recently delivered 
it became utterly clear the lack of knowledge on any level of breastfeeding 
(even how the breast works....is this not basic anatomy?) Bravo for those 
resident programs that work to give the education!
