><since i was pretty far away, mother and baby were
>>happily nursing when i arrived. >

Nope. The above was not my post. I rarely, if ever, use "nursing" to mean
"breastfeeding." I think it's just one of those things that keeps
breastfeeding in the closet.

><Of all the jobs I've had in my life, I like staff nursing best of all. >

This *was* my post, and I'd reiterate it in a minute.
>
>sounds like Marie was feeding the staff herself???

I think now that you see that these are two separate posts from two
separate people, you'll get it more clearly.

>is it just me who has trouble when I'm reading about nursing, as in feeding,
>and then nursing as in working as a nurse?

Lisa, I totally agree, and I've wildly campaigned to not use the word
"nursing" in a professional context when the word "breastfeeding" is more
accurate. When you're talking to moms, it may be okay sometimes. But I
remember once I got an e-mail titled, "Legislation for Nursing" and, of
course, I thought it would pertain to my RN license. I had to read half of
the post before I realized that it was talking about breastfeeding.

>as we've said before, in Australia, to nurse an infant just means to hold
>them on your lap. and nurses working in maternity hospitals are midwives, so
>it doesn't get so confusing.

All the more reason to use the word breastfeeding when we mean breastfeeding!

>this is not meant as a criticism - but just a language thing.
>Lisa Amir, Melbourne, Australia

It's a language thing, but it's more than that. Breastfeeding is never
going to be part of the cultural norm here in America until we start saying
the word BREAST out loud!!!
