I, too, would be concerned about the long term use of the high dose
steroids on such delicate skin. It could cause atrophy and be
contributing to the healing problem.
Personally, after I used on myself APNO and Diflucan and got my breast
infection under control, I have had good success using very pure zinc
oxide ointment (got from behind-the-counter at the compounding pharmacy
that made the APNO). This may be a useful, safer alternative for this
mother that could provide a soothing barrier while the sores heal. A
topical antibiotic also has merit, but one would need to watch that she
isn't reacting to the antibiotic since some (e.g. neomycin) are common
irritants. Perhaps alternating them would be soothing and protective
for her skin.
