>Hello! I have a memory that powdered formula was recently discussed and
someone mentioned that this was not to >be used on babies under one month of
age. Is this just opinion or a formal recommendation?

Dear Kathleen,

Because a high percentage of powdered formula is contaminated with
enterobacter sakazakii and/or salmonella, its use is not recommended for
hospitalized neonates or any baby that is immunocompromised, i.e. premature,
not breastfed. See FDA's letter to healthcare providers and recommendations
if no alternatives are available.

As far as I know there are no similar recommendations for powdered human
milk fortifier. Anyone know if the risks are the same?
