I ordered the 1995 book - the 1989 version was generally terrific, and I
used it as one of the textbooks for the junior clerkship in family
medicine I taught back then. However, it did only mention that
breastfeeding or formula should be recommended - a one-liner in a long
nutrition section. The guide focused on adults, and did not deal with
breastfeeding in the children's sections. A copy of the 1989 guide is
available on the WWW on the NIH home page - I can't find the exact
address, but you can get there though the white house page
(http://www.whitehouse.gov) or through any search engine's federal govt
listing.

but - since the new one is just out, it is more relevant. I called one of
the editors who said he would check out not only what is in it on
breastfeeding counseling but find out which staff member would carry that
section for revisions. However, the proposed federal budget would cut the
prevention office significantly, so there may not be another edition. That
would be a shame, because it really is a groundbreaking document for adult
health maintenance and prevention.

I'll post when I get more info.
