Nancy points out,

<<A newborn will probably take about the same amount of milk in a 24 hour day
whether breast or bottle-fed, but it will be proportioned very differently,
depending on feeding method. Some researchers believe that the habitual
overfeeding the bottle promotes contributes to obesity later in life.">>

There is an article I have somewhere (but can't put my fingers on it right
now) that states that a bottle fed infant consumes approximately 80,000 calories
more than is needed in the first year of life. I suspect this has to do with
two thing: the lack of bioavailability of formula or change in caloric value
meaning that babies have to take more and more to get what they need, as well
as the mechanics of bottle feeding as we have discussed. So I'm not sure
that a breastfed newbotn and a bottle fed newborn WILL, in fact, take the same
amount of milk regardless of feeding method. It's an interesting thought.....I
wonder if there is some way of measuring that.

My other comment -- as long as I am online here -- to the nutritionist that
said the 27 month old could not have banked milk because it was "infant" milk
-- does anyone remember the story of Lacey? If someone knows more about her
than I do (and I don't know much), perhaps you could share that on Lactnet. As
far as I remember, the only thing that kept Lacey alive for -- what was it --
8 years? was donated EBM. Now, at the age of 2, 3, 4 etc, you can bet your
boots she wasn't getting 4 year old milk, she was getting infant milk.

I would really question how much that nutritionist knows.

Of course, I question a lot of things...
