I have learned from my daughter, an ecologist who has studied botany
and plant biology, that there are many plants that seem to be
unrelated but are actually in the same family, such as mangoes and
poison ivy.

I have also heard it said that an aversion to a food may be indication
of a mild allergy, that from my SIL whose son has many allergies and
they don't push too hard when he doesn't want to eat something, even
if he's not officially allergic to it.
