Cathy,

Ditto. I do a tremendous amount of phone help, and even though there is
no one else in sight, I often find myself gesturing on my own breast. One
time, I didn't realize that my eldest son was home, and he turned to me and
said, "Mom, you are really uninhibited. Just try not to do stuff like that in
front of my friends!" I have become quite mindful of it during public talks,
but still slip them in at consults. I do not bare all ever, but I do
remember Chele lifting a blouse to demonstrate a dimpled, inverted nipple--because
she has them. I like to blame it on my heritage. My entire family uses
hand gestures while speaking. Putting our arms down at our sides is devastating.

Sometimes I get together with other NYC Lactnetters for lunch (hi Judy &
Kate!) and I'm gesturing away, not realizing we're in a Manhattan
restaurant with all these business folks. I often wonder what they
think! And I do demonstrate while on the phone. Executing the action
being taught helps me put it into words.
