Hello, I am a Pediatric Occupational Therapist pursuing my MA in coordination
with the Lactation Institute Lactation Consulting Program in Encino, CA. I
have worked with children with complex feeding problems for many years. I
currently work at the Center for Developing Kids in Pasadena where I see a
wide range of children with developmental issues. I am Certified in
NeuroDevelopmental Treatment and have been extensively trained in Neonatal
and Pediatric Feeding and Dysphagia. Enough said....I look forward to
exchanging information and am excited about being on "the list".
I am a novice at computers compared to most.

My question to you is related to GER and Breastfeeding the Premature Infant.
I have a colleague who is having difficulty with an infant who is having
severe apnea and bradycardic episodes when being fed thin
liquids(breastmilk). The baby has these episodes during and after feedings
at the breast. The episodes are lessened (but only after the feeds) if she
is given Rice Cereal in a bottle after feeding at the breast (a standard
protocol as we know). Nothing has worked to alleviate the episodes while yet
she is at the breast. Unfortunately this baby was discharged from the
hospital but returned because of duskiness during breastfeedings at home.
Everyone is struggling to find an answer in order to return this baby home.
There seem to be no other problems at this time.

I would love to hear from you, and am interested in any current references on
this topic.

I hope I am following the correct etiquette in asking this question. Please
advise me if not.

Thank you,

Lisa ([log in to unmask])
