There is an article in the latest Science News about the relationship between
cow milk ingestion and the development of diabetes. Cow milk and cow milk
based formulas contain small amounts of bovine insulin, which is similar to
human insulin and can induce the development of autoantibodies to insulin in
genetically primed humans. They quoted that in Puerto Rico, where 95% of
babies are bottle fed with artificial cow-milk-based formula, the incidence
of diabetes is 10 times the incidence in Cuba where breastfeeding is nearly
universal.
