This is a condition which results in the blood being more acid than it
should be. It is an abnormal situation. It is associated with
several disease states, such as, uncontrolled diabetes, or the
ingestion of large amounts of certain drugs, as, for example, aspirin.
There are certain congenital metabolic disorders which cause it.
These are rare. It is distinguished from respiratory acidosis which
is due to insufficient respiration and the person being unable to rid
the body of carbon dioxide.
