Please be aware that I have no financial or other COI with the Spectra pump.
My opinion about the Spectra is that it should be considered a hospital grade pump. There is no true definition of 'hospital grade'; they tend to be pumps that are closed system, expensive pump, with robust motors.
I talk up this pump with my patients. It is a closed system, light weight, very portable, and rechargeable. I like it more than the Symphony because of it convenience as stated, and the cycle frequency can be varied, which is not true for the Symphony. The pressures generated by the Spectra are also impressive, up to 300mmhg, which is typically not necessary, but imply that it is a strong motor.
I have had many, many patients who have used other popular pumps, who have favored the Spectra because it is cost effective, easily portable, and quite effective. In addition, the company has been very agreeable to work with.
When I have patients who are looking to rent a hospital grade pump, I encourage them to consider purchasing a Spectra instead.

Subject: ? Hospital grade pump

Are Spectra pumps being recommended to moms who need a pump to establish/maintain supply due to NICU baby or other situations. They have labeled themselves hospital grade, I am being told they work just as well as Platinum or Symphony for these moms. Antidotally not hearing great things. Curious if I am just out of the loop or if this is another marketing effort by manufacturers and vendors. If you are using them what are short and long term outcomes?
