This past year we changed our pumps in the entire system of 3 hospitals and outpatient service. We did a "study" having both Moms inpatient and NICU and staff who were pumping to test the Symphony vs.Ameda elite. The Ameda was the preferred pump. There were skeptics initially and all the hype was true. We now are using them and staff and patients are pleased.
All studies for pumps in breastfeeding seem to be done with Medela pumps primarily the old classic style. We had to get new pumps for our hospital while all the others were using the Medela Symphony and we had 8 OLD classics which were dying faster every day. It is amazing how efficient new pumps are...one of our nurse managers was pumping and she was very pleased with new pumps. I find it amazing that our society is so pump orientated. One study in Lamaze's Journal of Perinatal Education last May was enlightening....stated this is a techy society so all the young Moms are really into the concept of pumping. I can validate it.
Yikes! its scarey. We have very specific guidelines for giving pump kit in our institution.
Hope this offers you some insight/
