I distinctly remember an article by Sharon Humenick (a wonderful Lamaze
colleague and nursing professor in Wyorming) -- and I believe the gist of
it was, we need more research on this topic. They felt that women felt
stretching which was interpreted as pain, the researchers wondered if it
had to do with the stretching of adhesions, and it had mostly resolved in
their sample by three weeks. That's what I remember - but I can't find the
article on line and it would be a miracle if I still have that issue
(1993). Here's the citation:

Nipple Pain During Breastfeeding: The First Two Weeks and Beyond
Hill, Pamela D; Humenick, Sharron S. *The Journal of Perinatal Education*2.2
(Jun 30, 1993): 21-35.

Dawn Kersula....who wonders and wonders but doesn't do the research at our
small community hospital in Brattleboro VT
