Mary,
The answer to the question on what infant formula is the closest to breastmilk is surely the easiest to answer- and that is (provided that your country requires infant formula to meet Codex Alimentarius standards) that they are all the same- none is better than the other, the claims made about special ingredients in formula are all marketing claims designed to persuade parents to pay more money for formula. So none are close to breastmilk and buying the cheapest makes about as good a sense as any other strategy. Why let parents have the impression that there is any formula that is better than another?

I agree, I hate the "Pass the baby with the bottle around the room so everybody gets a try." method of infant feeding in front of a crowd.

I do not give clients info such as "what formula is closest to breastmilk?" (Probably the most common formula question I get.) I give a brief overview at the differences between ABM and human milk, let them know that powdered formulea is NOT sterile and then tell them, if they really want to use ABM to ask their doctor which brand to use, knowing the doctor may well simply prescribe whatever he has in his office or who contacts him the most often.
