My recollection is that the body will shift over to colostrum during the 
pregnancy at some point - sometimes it can be fairly early on.  I think 
there are some studies done (Ruth Lawrence maybe?) with moms who are 
pregnant and pumping to see how their milk changes and they were 
producing colostrum.  I know for myself I don't start making colostrum 
until after I've given birth.  With my first I never leaked or felt like 
there was anything in my breasts until about half an hour after he was 
born.  With my daughter, I know my mild production dropped a bit and the 
milk-ejection reflex was definitely slower but I'm quite certain I made 
mature milk until I had given birth to my daughter.  As with Shannon's 
response, this is just based on what I've read and my own experience 
with nursing through pregnancy/tandem nursing.
