To Kay, Lactnet and all those with helpful suggestions,
The mom with the mastitis and nipple thrush that was not responding to
antibiotics, she did start to greatly improve on day four. She went back to
her doctor on Monday and he did examine the breast and could find no lump or
thick spots (I had examined it after church the previous evening and could
find nothing, but extreme soreness). The doctor did not feel an ultrasound
was indicated. I do believe she has ductual yeast on top of the mastitis and
have cautioned her to watch for her nipples or the pain that radiates
throughout the breast to return when she finishes the Diflucan and contact her
doctor immediately for another week of Diflucan if it reoccurs. Baby's mouth
looks clear after treatment with Diflucan, but is still coming off and on
breast alot. I instructed mom to check baby's mouth daily as thrush could
return.
Thanks to all.
Warmly,
Pat Lindsey, IBCLC near Orlando, FL
