Thanks to Trish Whitehouse for coming into this living room and for knowing
just when to send an encouraging message. Very exciting to hear how Bobby is
doing... not all children have about 3000 aunties and uncles waiting to hear
his next move in the feeding department, but I feel like some kind of
shareholder in your son, and I am proud to be one.

I am sitting here in Gothenburg, having just turned in my short paper which
was an exercise for learning how to write a scientific article. My topic is
BF and working women. One of my classmates is a health professional, father
of a 4 week old baby, and he proudly told us he gives the baby formula at
night because his wife (also the same kind of health professional) will lose
her milk if she doesn't get a full night's sleep, that's what happened last
time. Mother is still on leave. This is Scandinavia where mothers can take
about a year off after giving birth and not lose their jobs or even lose any
pay during that year...

They have the baby in another room because they 'want their privacy'. He
professes to practice attachment parenting, BTW. This is child number 2, the
first was fed on a strict, by-the-clock, every 4 hours schedule from birth
because he and mother felt that feeding on the baby's cues would interfere
with their needs and decided the advice (on cue feeding) they were given on
the maternity ward was just nonsense. (Note history of supply problems and
the explanation they subscribe to for it.) Baby 'self-weaned' at 8 months,
which he clearly thought was about 2 months longer than one really OUGHT to
BF. Argh.

So it is very inspiring to hear about Trish, and Karleen, and all the others
who are willing to Be There for mothers and babies...
