To continue adding to Kathleen's list:
 - Too many visitors which make things very difficult with a mom who feels shy
and does not want her bare breast visible to her parents, her cousins, her
neighbors,her co-workers and her husband's partners (as I found in one room the
other day - a total of 10 people!)
[I now tell moms at the prenatal class to consider letting everyone else wait
for the news of the baby's birth - until they're at least sure they can void!
It usually gets a laugh, but it's so true - mom is still in her hospital gown
and people are arriving.]

- Insecurity of moms - "I don't have anything" - which requires constant
reinforcement.  It's practically impossible for there to be NO ONE in the 24
hour day of a mom who will not reinforce her fears the baby is starving to death
with "only" colostrum to dring.
(Too many negatives here - but the concern I have is that in 24 hours of a day,
with all the shifts plus all the MD's, relatives, friends, etc. "someone" at
"some time"  will tell the mom - yes, you're right, the baby has to be starving
- let's give him/her some milk "just to be sure.")
