Regarding Pacifiers:

I tell moms that they are a mother substitute.

And that you get what you'd expect from  a 25 cent piece of plastic:
-a baby needs to suck for a reason ... to increase supply for growth; your
breasts will respond to that, a piece of plastic won't
- it can change the way babies suck and make breastfeeding difficult
- it is a big culprit in thrush reinfecting the baby

and some moms use them instead of being moms and caring for their babies
they just pop 'em in when baby cries instead of tending to their child.
