Hospital stays vary for hysterectomies but I was in 5 days due to unexpected
ketoacidosis. Most of Gyn patients who are in their 50 and 60's stay about 4
days average but some have stayed 6 if they developed a fever or just where
slower to get up and about. The best place to be is the maternity postop if
possible...these nurses will get you up and make you smile and not miss a beat.
The cutest was the 80 year old we had who when she found out she was on the
maternity floor she said, "I had to go to the window to look for the star in the
sky, when I heard I was on the maternity unit, I thought a miracle had
happened!" She went home in 4 days. A real trooper.
Take some gingerale so you can make gingertea for gas and ask for a binder to
help in walking. And as soon as you can get in a shower and wear girlie
gowns...Good luck!
