Cristina,
Re your post asking if anyone has experience with a mother with burns on her
breast: I had a client last year with severe burns as a result of a childhood
accident. Her breasts were very scarred and tough, especially one, right
around the nipple. They also didn't lie in the usual manner. She had
wonderful determination and so did her son. She received excellent care
initially, with an in-hospital LC who supported her and connected her right
away with post discharge LC help, so we worked with her extensively.
Positioning of her large breasts was tricky. we had to get creative because
her skin was difficult to support(it slipped out of her hands as she
supported the breast).
Another problem that we encountered was that she leaked excessively from
the most involved nipple. I assumed that was a result of scar tissue and
poorly functioning musculature in the nipple pores. It was just a bit messy.
Her baby was a huge guy that loved to breastfeed. Big appetite, and he just
adjusted to any positioning that helped him eat!
I hope your sister-in-law does well, and bears many breastfed children!
