I have to admit to being extremely shocked and insulted by Morgans post
regarding NICU personnel. Others on the list have been very polite in their
answers. I am struggling to keep the same tone.
Fortifiers were approved for continued use in the NICU because they were in
single dose packages. One of the CDC concerns was that the contamination
possibly occurred due to people "dipping" into a big can over a long period
of time. The single use package was seen as less of a risk and therefore not
mandated to be mixed only under laminar hoods.
Morgan- as a NICU nurse for over 30 years I dispute your cruel and
insulting comments about NICU and most medical personnel. I'm also an IBCLC
who took great pride in making significant changes within each facility I
have worked and worked my butt off to improve staff education and family
support. In all my years, on the extremely rare instance that someone wasn't
a good "match" to the NICU environment they were let go. No one who sweats,
cries and prays for these very fragile babies and their families involved in
this struggle for life could ever do so just to collect the pay check as you
infer. I honestly cannot believe a fellow lactnetter could spew such
falsehoods. Whatever your "personal experience" I am sorry it damaged you to
this extent.
