Hi, all,
This was the show people were complaining about a few weeks ago because
while advertising, they showed lots and lots of bottles. Apparently the
situation comedy is about a dad raising his infant son alone after his wife
leaves him for another man and moves to Tibet. I was flipping channels
last night and happened upon it, and what a show to catch. Last night's
episode had a lot of breastfeeding discussion, done in a pretty positive
view, I thought. The dad takes the baby to a mommy and me class, there is
a shot of a mom nursing her baby (in a really nice, natural way, too, not
all contorted or covered up with blankets, just sitting on the floor during
the mother's group with her t-shirt pulled up, just like I nurse). Dad
comments that there are *some* things he can't do. (The mom asks him "are
you breastfeeding?" and he answers wistfully "not for a long time...". LOL)
Then dad and his brother are discussing the mothers bragging about their
precocious babies skills (squeezing a squeeky toy) which their baby hasn't
mastered yet, and dad has an anxiety attack when he decides that the other
babies are smarter because they have been getting breastmilk! Then his
nanny and he decide it's not the breastmilk that makes the babies smarter,
it's the act of nursing, so he orders a $300 fake set of breasts called
"Father Knows Breast" (!!) that he straps on and fills with milk, but his
boss catches him trying it on, so...
Anyway, silly, yes, and it is the breastmilk *and* the act of nursing
which offers benefit to the baby, but even with all the humor and
silliness, it was wonderful to see almost a whole sitcom theme featuring
breastfeeding.
This show is on the Fox network on Monday nights.
