Just wanted to update you all on baby Emma -- the little one being fed
pre-digested ABM in the NICU instead of mom's milk. Thank you to those
who sent references. I took a list of references and a copy of "The
Hazards of Infant Formula" to the mom, although it was too late for this
baby. Yesterday the neonatologist allowed mom to begin breastfeeding --
hooray! Emma was a little impatient, but mom was patient and when I got
there to see them, they were nursing beautifully. The mom talked again
to the neonatologist who explained that since Emma had lost the lining
of her intestine, she would not have the enzymes to break down proteins,
hence the pre-digested stuff. Any comments on that one? Anyway, mom is
now camping out at the hospital until they let her bring her little one
home. New neonatologist (they switched off today), says they must wait
at least two good days -- to be sure she doesn't lose weight. Grrr.
